Pep Rally ‘Shark Attack’ Fails to Make Jaws Drop

This year, a blue-finned breakdown cascaded onto the gym floor, eliciting mixed responses from viewers.

Split on whether the performance was hysterically successful, the identity of the now infamous Left Shark remains undisclosed. With ASB’s request, exclusive insight on what the experience was like for the mascot, as well as the audience has been obtained.

“I felt my heart beating through the ground,” said the student who performed in the shark costume. “It was so fun having everyone cheering!”

The anonymous student’s energetic and dynamic choreography certainly made some of the audience giggle and engage their eyes to center stage. However, the question remains, was this reaction due to the the pure, humorous nature of the notorious Left Shark meme reference, or the irreverent lunacy that was taking place in front of their eyes? According to ASB students, the Left Shark reference was the perfect addition to the show.

“That shark had sick moves,” claimed senior ASB student Janai Robinson. “Better watch out when it is shark week!”

While the pep rally mascot gained support from some, there were others who thought the act was “subpar.” During the performance, confusion erupted from the stands as students struggled to recall the reference ASB was attempting to make via the Left Shark meme.

“Wasn’t it three years ago?” questioned senior Anna Davis. “The Left Shark was not right.”

As the rally came to an end there was tension between those who appreciated the

Left Shark for what it was, and those who were left feeling confused and unsatisfied. People were divided; Did the performance blow it out of the water, or did it sink the rally into an obscure abyss?

No matter what side viewers were on in the debate, one thing is certain: students are talking and many believe the shark failed to make jaws drop.
