Fall Play Announced: Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Mayzie Smith-Mooers

The Drama Department in room 202 is excitedly preparing for their production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream this term. This year’s fall play is taking William Shakespeare’s classic comedy and putting a modern spin on it.

Drama teacher Carol Jones says “It’s a really fun show! I have so many ideas and I am dying to start!”

Some students were discouraged when they heard they needed to recite the complicated wordings of Shakespeare. They were also worried when they had to prepare for their audition in as little as six days. The drama department lightened the aspiring actors’ spirits by teaching them the intricate storyline as well as giving them the appropriate criteria to audition with.

Sophomore Erin-Mae Mckeon states, “I think Shakespeare was great route in theatre to take...It’s risky, but I feel that we have so many incredibly talented actors that can handle the pressure.”

Despite the concerns, there are many students who are thrilled to show off their talents in this year’s production, as well as be able to work with fellow actors and build a strong relationship with the cast to-be.

Senior Madison McCarthy states, “There are so many talented kids that I have the utmost love for. They work so hard and I am honored to have the opportunity to act with them.”
