When students and staff gathered in the gym to take part in the first pep rally of the school year, they were met with a variety of performances by students. One of which was the musical performance by student-organized band, David and the Dudes. Led by senior David Spitzfaden. The band played the song Time by Pink Floyd.
“The band was really good,” senior Alexis Hansen said. “I liked their song choice.”
The band began their performance near the end of the event, amid colored lights and phone flashlights. Students were already cheering as the band prepared to play. To some, the performance was a highlight of the event. Senior Emma Vermaak thought the performance was a great example of the talent that can be found on campus.
“David is extremely talented and has great stage presence,” said Vermaak. Spitzfaden is the lead singer and guitarist of the band, and provided vocals with a guitar solo during the show. As the performance ended, Spitzfaden also announced the upcoming release of his own album, provoking additional cheers and applause from the audience.
Even with a small technical glitch before the band begun their performance, the song by David and the Dudes was one of the rally’s most popular events. David and the Dudes put on what one student called a very “enjoyable performance,” and others, such as senior Ori Levitch, called “phenomenal.”
“They’re so naturally talented,” Levitch stated.
The next major school event will be Rock the Hill, in which student musicians will be performing for a large crowd in September. Some students hope to see David and the Dudes appear on stage, and deliver another engaging performance.
