Today, video editing is more popular and accessible than ever. Social media has created a platform for the new generation of Millennials and Generation Z to share their creations with the world. For one freshman, that’s exactly what social media has done. Fourteen year old, Haley Schmidt, has a passion for editing mini videos and posting them on her Instagram for her followers.
Schmidt dates her Instagram page back to the winter of 2017.
“It was my friend Mariah who got me started in it,” Haley stated. “We were hanging out and she was showing me all of these new videos she had created; it really intrigued me. So she helped me learn the basics and I went from there.”
And it’s not as hard as it looks. Haley cited apps such as “Videoleap” and “Inshot” as the apps she uses simply on her phone to create her talented videos.
“I would recommend for anyone to just give it a shot. You can learn a lot from watching a lot of Youtube videos - that’s how I’ve become so skillful in it - and just really have fun with it,” Haley stated. “Explore all of the interesting dips and turns your videos can take. It’s really mind blowing.”
It’s really turned into more than just a hobby at such a fast pace. When asked if Haley had any interest in making it a career, she was eager to respond, knowing exactly what her answer would be.
“I really want to become a digital cinematographer. I just love it so much just making these mini edits for Instagram, I can’t even imagine how it would feel to be able to do it for a living,” Haley said. “and to see all of the reactions from everyone that would see it. Yeah, that’s definitely the goal.”
For Haley, it’s more than just a screen or a little clip. It’s a masterpiece that she’s put her heart and soul into. So, look out for her name in the next ten years or so. Whether it be documentaries, movies or youtube creations, Haley Schmidt will have her name out there, editing faster than her fingers can type.
